FRIDAY 11 July
Friday 11 July marked a historic event as Her Majesty The Queen arrived at RAF Fairford to present the new Queen’s Colours to the Royal Air Force and the Royal Air Force Regiment. The event was comprised of a introductory salute and flypast by four Typhoons, a full parade comprising of over 800 RAF personnel and the presentation of the Queens Colours. As a special salute to Her Majesty The Queen, the RAF staged a flypast of over 90 aircraft representing it’s past and present. Included in this flypast were an Avro Lancaster accompanied by a Spitfire and Hurricane, a VC10 accompanied by an E3 and finally the Red Arrows who also performed a very special display to round off the proceedings.
The weather stayed bright and thankfully there was no rain during the actual presentation however towards the end of the parade the weather once again took a turn for the worse and we were once again faced with torrential rain.
